Three Awarded NMGIC "SWUG" Scholarships

Kate Lenzer, Peggy Allison, and Drew Ignizio: 2010 SWUG Scholarship Awardees

NMGIC has awarded several "SWUG" scholarships each year to students enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution who are conducting studies within the geospatial realm. The scholarship provides the student with a $1500 travel & expenses stipend for attending that year's SWUG Meeting. The students must present a paper at the SWUG Meeting, and give a presentation at the next NMGIC Meeting as well.

The 2010 NMGIC SWUG Scholarship winners are:

  • Peggy Allison - "GIS Assessment of Water Contamination Risks from Uranium Mining within the Mt Taylor Traditional Cultural Property in Northwest New Mexico"

  • Kate Lenzer - "Clustering of Fast Food Outlets Around Schools"

  • Drew Ignizio - "Suitability Modeling and the Locating of Utility-Scale Solar Power Plants in the Southwest United States"
  • (The links above provide access to their presentations given at the NMGIC Spring 2010 Meeting in May, 2010.)
